2D Drafting for MEP Contractors
At US BIM, we offer 2D drafting services that are enhanced by the power of 3D modeling, providing MEP contractors with the best of both worlds: cost savings and system-level coordination.
What Makes Our Approach Unique?
While traditional 2D drafting can be limited in visualizing spatial conflicts, and full multi-trade BIM coordination can be costly and time-consuming, US BIM offers a smart middle ground:
-
✅ We build a 3D model of your MEP system (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Fire Sprinkler) to ensure internal coordination within your trade.
-
✅ By not performing complete multi-trade clash detection, we can significantly reduce project costs and turnaround time.
-
✅ We extract 2D drawings directly from the 3D model, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and constructability.
Benefits for MEP Contractors:
-
System-Level Coordination: Even without coordinating with other trades, your system is internally optimized—ducts, pipes, and conduits are routed logically and efficiently.
-
Reduced Rework: The 3D model helps identify internal conflicts early, minimizing field issues.
-
Cost-Effective: By skipping full BIM coordination, you save on modeling hours and coordination meetings.
-
Faster Delivery: We streamline the drafting process by modeling only what’s necessary for your scope.
Our Process:
-
Input Collection: We receive your design intent—sketches, markups, or redlines.
-
3D Modeling: We model your MEP system in 3D to ensure internal consistency and spatial logic.
-
2D Drafting: We generate clean, code-compliant 2D drawings from the model.
-
Review & Delivery: You receive layered CAD files and PDFs, ready for submittals or construction.
Where We See the Most Benefit:
-
Plumbing underground or Electrical underground drawings. This can be very helpful for those needing to know precisely where they are stubbing up out of the slab on grade and into the center of walls or the bottom of panels.
-
This applies to overhead drain, waste, vent, and storm piping, as well as HVAC and mechanical piping. We can quickly model these to make certain that each system is routing freely and is clear of the others. We reflect this on the drawings by placing the bottom of the pipe tags, slope tags, top and bottom of duct tags, etc.
-
Concrete deck penetration drawings can be handy by showing the precise location of sleeves and blockouts.
-
---TRIMBLE POINTS--- All of our slab on grade stub-ups and deck penetration sleeves have Trimble Total Station Points. If you have your Trimble connected to a job site's Wi-Fi internet connection, then we can remotely upload the points for all manufacturers. i.e., Trimble, Leica, Topcon, Sokkia, and Hilti.
